The melody of this song inspired us to make a fusion between the original style, called pasillo (national genre from Ecuador), and fado music (coming from Portugal). Both styles share a basic instrumentation with voice, classical guitar and a melodic instrument playing backlines (Portuguese guitar for fado, requinto for pasillo), as well as a very melancholic way of singing. To make it complete, we moved the metric from 3/4 (typical from pasillo) to 2/4 (typical from fado), and introduced the cavaquinho (Portuguese instrument) to play the backlines.
lyrics
Esta pena mía
No tiene importancia
No es más que la sombra
De una melodía
El íntimo ensueño
De alguna fragancia
Que todo se muere
Que la vida es triste
Que no vendrás nunca
Por más que te espere
Que ya no me quieres
Como me quisiste
No tiene importancia
Yo soy razonable
No puedo pedirte
Ni amor ni constancia
Ni es mía la culpa
De no ser variable
Qué valen mis quejas
Si no las escuchas
Y que mis caricias
Cuando tú las dejas
Tal vez depreciadas
Porque fueron muchas
Esta pena mía
Que es mía, muy mía
No es más que el recuerdo
De alguna fragancia
No es más que la sombra
De una melodía
Ya ves que no tiene
Ninguna importancia
